About this release
Gary Bartz’s ‘Music Is My Sanctuary’ pairs with ‘Carnaval De L’Esprit’ on this Major Keys 12-inch. Drawn from his 1977 album, the title song combines Bartz’s saxophone with Syreeta Wright’s vocals, percussion from Bill Summers and James Mtume, and an arrangement by Larry Mizell. Its lyrics celebrate the place music holds in people’s lives, set within the recording’s jazz-funk framework. ‘Carnaval De L’Esprit’ continues the instrumental and rhythmic focus on the reverse. Major Keys presents the two selections in a remastered edition, giving each track its own side of the record.
