About this release
In The Moment is Makaya McCraven’s debut for International Anthem, built from nearly forty-eight hours of improvised music recorded over twenty-eight shows at one venue. McCraven cuts, loops and rearranges those performances into nineteen tracks, keeping the interaction of the musicians while giving the material the structure of a beat record. Contributors include Jeff Parker, Marquis Hill, Junius Paul and Joshua Abrams, with acoustic instruments and electronics woven around the drums. From The Jaunt and Gnawa to the longer First Thing First, the album moves between concentrated grooves and open-ended passages. This double LP contains the original nineteen-track programme.
