Nina Simone - Blackbird (Joe Claussell / Timmy Regisford Mix)

Nina Simone’s Blackbird meets the New York house tradition on this purple vinyl 12-inch, with Timmy Regisford’s Shelter version and Joaquin Joe Claussell’s edits and overdubs. Regisford builds a percussive groove around Simone’s vocal, using organ lines to bring movement and tension to the song. The result carries the weight of the performance into a club setting.

Claussell develops that foundation in ‘Joe’s Edits And Overdubs Version’, opening up the percussion and organ parts, while the B-side bonus organ dub takes the arrangement further into a stripped, trippy direction. Three treatments give DJs different routes into the same material, from the vocal-led Shelter mix to the more spacious dub. This edition comes in a black jacket with a hype sticker.
