About this release
Expanding To One documents Seth Ford-Young’s Phi-Psonics ensemble across six recording sessions at Healing Force Of The Universe in Pasadena during 2024. Fourteen largely improvised pieces bring the bassist together with saxophonists Sylvain Carton and Randal Fisher, drummer Josh Collazo and a changing group of guests. Wurlitzer, harp, guitar and percussion widen the ensemble’s palette, with Zach Tenorio, Minta Spencer, Dylan Day and Jay Bellerose among the contributors. Edited to let the music stand without crowd noise, the recordings preserve the shared focus of those performances. Gondwana Records’ double LP carries the complete sequence from “Prelude: Expansion” to “Mysteries Of The Dark”.
