About this release
Saheb Sarbib’s Evil Season puts the double bass at the centre of an exploratory quartet recording. Sarbib also plays reeds, flute and percussion, joined by Daunik Lazro on alto saxophone and bass clarinet, Manuel Resende on acoustic and electric piano, and Jonathan Dickinson on drums. Rather than remaining behind the soloists, the bass takes an active melodic role alongside the reeds and keyboards. The six pieces move through a free jazz setting in which each musician also contributes percussion. This Eating Standing Recordings vinyl reissue presents the complete programme, from the title track and “Spirits” through to the closing “Ascent”.
