About this release
Thug Rock pairs Sandy Kerr's original recording with the Chimental Mix, a dub treatment of the same track. Released in 1982, the song combines her rap delivery with slap bass, synthesizers and a boogie-funk rhythm. Production and arrangement came from George Kerr and Reggie Griffin, with John Morales and Sergio Munzibai handling the mix as M&M. The reverse uses selected vocal fragments while giving more space to the instrumental groove. Catawba's official 12-inch reissue presents both versions, preserving the contrast between the vocal-led first side and the dub approach on the second.
