About this release
Soul Sugar and Dub Shepherds meet around a shared love of roots reggae, soul and analogue recording on Blue House Rockin’. Captured live over two days at Blue House Studio and mixed at Bat Records, the sessions put Hammond organ, guitar and a tightly connected rhythm section at the centre. Jolly Joseph sings reggae interpretations of Curtis Mayfield’s Give Me Your Love and Aaron Frazer’s My God Has a Telephone, while Shniece McMenamin leads Family Affair. Jackie Mittoo instrumentals sit alongside original compositions, with spring reverb, tape warmth and dub effects giving the performances their spacious character.
