About this release
Melbourne ensemble Standing Circle present their self-titled debut on La Sape Records, led by guitarist and kraartar player Larry Crestani. Recorded live at The Grove, the album treats each composition as a starting point for collective improvisation, moving between spiritual jazz, jazz-funk and African rhythmic influences.
Congas, percussion and electric bass anchor the group’s shifting arrangements, with Rhodes, synthesizers and voices adding colour around Crestani’s playing. Liftoff, The Run Up and Chant for Now are among eight performances that balance reflective passages with physical groove. Nick Herrera recorded, mixed and mastered the sessions, preserving the ensemble’s responsive interplay.
