About this release
Soundway pairs two edits of African recordings with distinct musical roots. Nigerian musician Steve Monite's Only You, also featured on the Doing It In Lagos compilation, receives a disco treatment from Sofrito's Frankie Francis that brings its bass movement forward. On the reverse, Nick The Record and Dan Tyler rework Tabu Ley Rochereau's Hafi Deo, adding momentum to the drums while highlighting the chorus and horns. Monite's disco and boogie sound sits alongside Rochereau's Congolese pop, with the editors extending the rhythmic focus of both recordings. This SNDW12025 12-inch places one version on each side.
