About this release
Moonshade presents Roger Webb's jazz-rooted writing through sixteen short library pieces, first issued by Music De Wolfe in 1971. Barbara Moore's wordless vocals work as another instrument alongside piano, horns and rhythm, moving between melodic passages and heavier funk arrangements. Sunshine and Gentle Eyes open the record before Heavy Lace introduces a more pronounced drum groove. The second side includes the title piece Moon Shade, Interweave and Reminiscence, ending with Sparky. Be With Records' LP reissue restores the complete programme, making the contrast between Webb's compact arrangements and Moore's vocal textures clear across both sides.
