About this release
1st Unit brings together the first productions by three resident DJs at Tokyo's The Bank, originally pressed to mark the club's first birthday in 1989. Katsuya Sano opens with I Need Luv, combining TR-909 drums, analogue bass and JUNO chords. Junichi Soma's Ubnormal Life follows the influence of Chicago acid house, while Shuji Wada's Endless Load develops a deeper arrangement with marimba-like leads and jazz-funk bass. Heigo Tani and Jun Ebi assisted the three DJs in the studio. This Rush Hour reissue presents all three recordings on 12-inch vinyl, with an insert containing the release's background and full liner notes.
