About this release
Compiled by Switch Groove, Archipelago explores French recordings from 1978 to 1988 through music shaped by diaspora, overseas territories and independent studio experiments. The selection connects cosmic disco, jazz-funk, fusion and dub, drawing a line from the French Caribbean to the outskirts of Paris. Patrick Bernard, Cécilia Angeles and Carla Music Orchestra appear alongside Francis Bebey, Michel Lorentz and Princess Erika, whose contribution is presented in a Dennis Bovell dub version. Two ambient soundscape pieces by Switch Groove complete the sequence. Isle Of Jura’s eleven-track compilation is pressed on 180g vinyl with sleeve design by Bradley Pinkerton.
