About this release
Compiled by Istanbul-based producer and record collector Grup Ses, DALGA gathers nine examples of Turkish pop’s electronic turn during the 1980s. Drum machines, synthesisers and new studio techniques run through music that connects international pop, Arabesque and Anatolian influences.
Six selections originally appeared only on rare cassettes. Tracks by Mehmet Pekün, Füsun Önal, Grup Titan, Serpil Örümcer and others capture a period when musicians were finding new ways to combine local traditions with electronic production. Released on Zel Zele as ZEL14.
