About this release
Cat In The Hat is Bobby Caldwell's second album, originally released in 1980. Its eight songs connect soul and jazz-pop with an AOR sensibility, keeping Caldwell's vocals and melodic writing at the centre. Open Your Eyes became a source for J Dilla's production on Common's The Light, while Coming Down From Love opens the album and I Don't Want To Lose Your Love closes it. Be With Records' LP reissue presents the original programme across two sides. Alongside the better-known Open Your Eyes, tracks such as To Know What You've Got and It's Over show the album's balance of direct songwriting and smooth arrangements.
