About this release
Foster Sylvers' self-titled album captures his early-1970s soul and funk sound, with writing from his brother Leon Sylvers III. Originally released in 1973, it opens with Misdemeanor, whose distinctive rhythm became a familiar source for hip-hop producers including Madlib and Pete Rock. The album also includes I'm Your Puppet, Mockingbird and More Love, placing the singer's youthful voice across a varied eleven-track programme. Rather than the later pop-disco direction associated with the Sylvers family, these recordings emphasize their earlier soul roots. Mr Bongo's official reissue presents the album on vinyl with replica original artwork.
