About this release
Family brings Hubert Laws' 1980 recording to 12-inch vinyl in stereo and mono versions. The flautist's work connects jazz playing with soul and dance rhythms, with his sister Debra Laws contributing the vocals to the original song. Rather than pairing separate compositions, this Columbia reissue places the two presentations of Family on opposite sides, keeping the focus on the same extended recording. The vocal melody and instrumental arrangement remain central to both versions, offering an example of Laws' crossover approach at the start of the 1980s. This official remastered edition preserves the stereo/mono pairing.
