About this release
Jerry Blacksheer's Defected pairs with You Are The One on this Athens Of The North seven-inch reissue. Originally issued in 1986, the two-song single sits in the modern soul tradition, bringing vocal-led recordings with a dancefloor feel together on one forty-five. Defected takes the first side, with You Are The One on the reverse. The reissue retains the character of the original recordings: the master tapes were unavailable, and some roughness and vocal sibilance remain in the sound. ATH116 presents both songs in their original single pairing, with the music's soul and disco crossover at its centre.
