About this release
Myke Moul’s ‘Oppressor’ combines synth reggae, boogie and jazz-funk across seven songs. Written by Moul and arranged with Majek Fashek in Nigeria, the album was subsequently reworked and recorded in France, where multi-instrumentalist Pierre de St Front contributed synthesizers and electronic drums. The title track addresses political turmoil through a mid-tempo reggae groove, while ‘Shadows In The Rain’ takes an instrumental jazz-funk direction. ‘Heading For The Top’ leans into boogie, and ‘Rescue Us, O Lord’ brings the reggae elements forward again. Canopy’s complete album reissue is restored and remastered by Dan Elleson, with lacquer cutting by The Carvery.
