About this release
The Sylvers' self-titled debut places the Los Angeles family group's harmonies within an early-1970s soul and funk setting. Originally released in 1972, it includes writing by Leon Sylvers III and songs such as Wish That I Could Talk To You, Fool's Paradise and Only One Can Win. The vocal blend moves between brighter rhythmic arrangements and more reflective material, with I Know Myself and How Love Hurts showing further sides of the group. These recordings predate the pop-disco direction of their later hits. Mr Bongo's MRBLP193 reissue presents the original ten-track vinyl programme across two sides.
