About this release
Tony Simmons' I Can't Let You Go shares this Record Shack twelve-inch with Soul Shack's Galactic Funk. Simmons' 1983 recording brings live drums, bass, guitar and uplifting vocals into a Brit-funk groove, while Galactic Funk, originally released in 1980, moves towards a more cosmic sound through slap bass, synthesizers and group chants. The reissue connects two recordings from the British funk scene's early-1980s period, giving each its own side. The vocal-led first track and the instrumental drive of the reverse show different approaches to funk's relationship with disco, keeping both artists' contributions distinct.
