About this release
Miles Away opens its Echoes From series with the catalogue of Cheri Records, the New Jersey label run by Boo Frazier. Active between 1974 and 1982, Cheri issued a small body of recordings whose reach extended through disco, funk and soul dancefloors. Rare Pleasure’s ‘Let Me Down Easy’ leads the selection, joined by the Family Tree, Roslyn & Charles, Hyla Parker, Julius Brockington Ensemble and others. The compilation traces connections across the label’s vocal groups, gospel-inflected songs and club rhythms. Its gatefold package includes detailed liner notes and interviews with Colin Curtis and David Morales, placing the recordings within the story of the label.
