About this release
Eko’s third album, Funky Disco Music, brings together disco rhythms, jazz-funk arrangements and songs shaped by his Cameroonian background. Recorded in the late-1970s Paris scene, it opens with the title track’s horns and Vicky Edimo’s bass before moving into “Ndolo Embe Mulema”. “Une Chanson Sans Paroles” connects French pop with an Afro-swing rhythm, while “Bowa’a Mba Ngebe” closes the first side on a brighter disco note. The reverse moves through “Doi Da Manga” and the bass-led grooves of “Me To A De Try My Own” before the jazz ballad “Emen Ango”. Africa Seven’s reissue restores and remasters the eight-track album.
