About this release
Zito Righi e Seu Conjunto’s Alucinolândia first appeared in Brazil in 1969, bringing samba, MPB and bossa nova together with organ-led jazz and easy-listening songs. Behind the surreal sleeve is a record rooted in the lighter, danceable side of the decade. Saxophonist and arranger Zito Righi assembled a cast that includes Sônia Santos, whose vocal opens ‘Poema Rítmico Do Malandro’ over a forceful samba and batucada arrangement. Roberval wrote three pieces, among them the brief ‘Birimbau’. Mr Bongo’s reissue returns this twelve-track album to vinyl, keeping its mixture of Brazilian songs and international standards intact.
