Fela Kuti - Afrodisiac

Afrodisiac captures Fela Kuti revisiting songs already established in Nigeria at Abbey Road Studios in 1972. The four extended pieces include 'Jeun Ko Ku', also known as 'Chop And Quench', a satire on gluttony that became one of his early major hits. Across the album, the band’s Afrobeat language connects rhythmic repetition with jazz and funk. This fiftieth-anniversary Knitting Factory edition spreads the music across two records at 45 RPM, pressed on marbled green and marbled red vinyl. A gold-foil obi carries a brief essay, adding context to an album whose reach extended to Brian Eno and Talking Heads.
