Rodrigo Campos - Bahia Fantastica

Rodrigo Campos’ second album, first released in 2012, absorbs soul influences into his own Brazilian songwriting. Curtis Mayfield was an important reference, but Bahia Fantástica filters that inspiration through samba, Afrobeat and a band including Kiko Dinucci, Marcelo Cabral, Maurício Fleury, Maurício Takara and Thiago França. Its imagined geography moves between São Mateus, Bahia and Japan, with characters and places taking shape through Campos’ lyrics. Goma Gringa’s vinyl edition brings the twelve songs together, preserving an album whose distinctive identity comes from the meeting of intimate storytelling and an increasingly open musical palette.
