About this release
Uganda (Dawn Of African Rock) follows Akira Ishikawa and the Count Buffaloes through four extended pieces that connect psychedelic and progressive rock with African-influenced percussion and jazz. Originally released on Toshiba Records in 1972, the album places Ishikawa's drumming alongside Hideaki Chihara's bass, Kimio Mizutani's guitar and Larry Sunaga's percussion, with Takeru Muraoka contributing as composer. Wah-wah guitar and blues-funk passages give way to more open rhythmic sections, creating a darker, more experimental setting than Ishikawa's straight funk recordings. This Mr Bongo reissue presents the complete four-track album in the MRBLP239B edition, housed in a tip-on sleeve with an obi strip.
