About this release
The first release in Mr Bongo's Africa 45s series brings together two different recordings called Samba. Amazones De Guinee lead with a live performance captured in Paris in 1983, taken from Au Coeur De Paris. Their vocals, percussion and audience response give the track an immediate band feel. On the other side, Moussa Doumbia's Samba comes from his 1980 Sacodis album. Born in Mali and based in Abidjan, Doumbia combined African rhythms with funk, using a forceful vocal style alongside his work as a saxophonist and arranger. This 7-inch pairs the Guinean group's live recording with his studio performance.
