Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer & Shahzad Ismaily - Love in Exile

Love In Exile brings Arooj Aftab’s Urdu vocals into a slowly unfolding conversation with Vijay Iyer’s piano and electronics and Shahzad Ismaily’s bass and Moog synthesizer. The trio works with a restrained instrumental palette, allowing small changes in melody, texture and timing to carry the drama. Keyboard figures, low bass movement and sustained drones surround Aftab’s voice without crowding it, giving the music a spacious sense of time. Across six extended pieces, including To Remain / To Return, Shadow Forces and Eyes Of The Endless, the players build a shared language from close listening and subtle interaction.
