About this release
Shruti Dances brings Auntie Flo's electronic production together with Sarathy Korwar's percussion across six instrumental pieces. The shruti box, a drone instrument related to the harmonium, provides a foundation for tabla, drums and processed textures. Dha opens with sparse tabla and arpeggiated synthesizers, while Pa moves through a shuffling dance rhythm. Ma gives the drones more space, Ni foregrounds toms, and Sa closes with slower chords and birdsong. Named after notes in Indian solfege, the tracks connect improvisation with studio production. Released on Make Music, the LP follows the duo's first meeting in 2019 and their subsequent work together.
