About this release
Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band reinterpret 50 Cent’s ‘P.I.M.P.’ and John Holt’s ‘Police In Helicopter’ on this Big Crown seven-inch. On ‘PIMP’, the band turns the familiar loop into a full arrangement, with steel pan and brass set over weighty drums and bass. The reverse moves into reggae through their version of ‘Police In Helicopter’, keeping the steel-pan sound at the centre. Pairing the two covers draws together the group’s approach to hip-hop material and roots reggae, with live-band playing reshaping both songs. The two-track programme places ‘PIMP’ on the first side and ‘Police In Helicopter’ on the flip.
