Bill Withers & Studio Rio - Lovely Day (Repress)

Bill Withers & Studio Rio bring a Brazilian feel to Lovely Day, pairing Withers' original vocal with a fresh bossa nova arrangement. Reissued by Mr Bongo on 7-inch vinyl, this version first appeared on Studio Rio's 2014 album The Brazil Connection, a project led by the Berman Brothers.

Recorded with Brazilian musicians, the arrangement surrounds the familiar melody with bright horns, buoyant double bass and Pretinho da Serrinha's cavaquinho. Access to the original multitracks allowed the producers to weave Withers' voice into the new recording, keeping the warmth of his performance at its centre. The instrumental version on the B-side gives the band's relaxed swing room to shine.
