About this release
Chapter & The Verse’s Black Whip returns on Légère Recordings for its first official 7" reissue. Originally released in 1991, the track pairs production by Colin ‘Chapter’ Thorpe with vocals from Aniff ‘The Verse’ Akinola, capturing a moment when British dance music drew freely from funk, soul and jazz.
Backed with Stealth, this single places two pieces of the duo’s catalogue together on a compact vinyl format. It also accompanies Légère’s wider revival of their recordings, bringing renewed attention to the partnership behind Great Western Street and its place in the acid jazz era.
