About this release
Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey and His Inter-Reformers Band’s Eyi Yato forms the starting point for this four-version Sol Power Sound EP. The 1981 recording combines a drum-and-bass groove with wah-wah guitar and call-and-response vocals. Sol Power All-Stars add analogue synth bass, sequences and keyboards from Daniel Meinecke, while Eddie C takes the music towards electro and acid. Mad Professor draws out the rhythm with delay, reverb and dub effects, mixed at Ariwa Studios. An extended version of the original completes the twelve-inch, placing the band’s juju sound alongside three different approaches to reworking its groove.
