Daniel Salinas - Atlantis

Brazilian pianist, arranger and conductor Daniel Salinas turns orchestral material into jazz-funk on Atlantis. Originally released by Top Tape in 1973, the album includes Straussmania, his interpretation of Also Sprach Zarathustra, inspired by Eumir Deodato's recording. Salinas' own Baião sits alongside versions of Donovan's Atlantis and Bridge over Troubled Waters, with cinematic arrangements and breakbeat-driven passages giving the selection its character. Mr Bongo's reissue reproduces the original Brazilian artwork, rather than the yellow sleeve used for the later American Cadet edition. Seven tracks trace Salinas' route between Brazilian music, orchestration and funk.
