About this release
Dexter Wansel’s 1976 debut Life On Mars brings Philadelphia soul into a world of cosmic funk and jazz fusion. His ARP 2600 synthesizer shapes the album’s otherworldly atmosphere, setting melodic keyboard lines against tight rhythms and expansive arrangements. The title track and “A Prophet Named K.G.” capture that balance of studio invention and groove.
“Theme From The Planets”, with its much-sampled drum introduction, sits alongside the reflective “Together Once Again” and closing “Rings Of Saturn”. This Music On Vinyl reissue presents all eight tracks on a single black vinyl LP.
