Dorothy Ashby - Dorothy's Harp

Dorothy Ashby's 1969 album places her harp at the centre of a rich meeting between jazz, soul and Brazilian music. Released originally on Cadet, Dorothy's Harp moves from Jimmy Webb's 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' to the Brazilian compositions 'Canto De Ossanha' and 'Reza', with percussion giving the delicate strings a firm rhythmic footing.

Ashby's own writing sits alongside versions of 'This Girl's In Love With You', 'The Windmills Of Your Mind' and 'Fool On The Hill'. The record later found another audience through samples by artists including Pete Rock and Ugly Duckling. This Music On Vinyl edition presents the eleven-track album on 180g black audiophile vinyl.
