Wait Til I Get Over is Durand Jones’ solo reflection on Hillaryville, Louisiana, and the life he has built beyond it. The songs return to his hometown’s history and contradictions, connecting memories of a rural Black childhood with questions of faith, love and self-worth. Gospel traditions, Southern soul and spoken passages give the album its range, with Lord Have Mercy capturing the energy of a live band and the title track drawing on the sound of a choir. Jones writes with the perspective of someone who once wanted to leave and later learned how much of home he carried with him.
