About this release
Spanish Dogs is the second album from Madrid-based El Combo Batanga, whose sound brings Afro-Cuban rhythms together with Latin soul, timba and boogaloo. The group's roots lie in the weekly sessions of Los Chocolatinos and the arrival of vocalist Ale Gutiérrez, formerly of Habana Abierta. An expanded line-up developed while backing Joe Bataan, adding brass and keyboards to a rhythm section already accustomed to playing together. Recorded live over three days, the album draws on that ensemble experience, with interlocking percussion, bass and guitar supporting vivid horn arrangements and songs shaped for collective performance.
