About this release
Fabio Santanna's Copa Astral brings Brazilian boogie, disco and Balearic influences together across eight tracks for Onda Boa. Recorded at his Copacabana studio, the album combines synthesizers with live brass, percussion and layered vocal arrangements. The title track opens with a cuíca, introducing the rhythmic character that runs through the record.
Rafael Nascimento contributes trumpet and Traka plays saxophone, with additional percussion from Jovi and Nbeatz. Santanna's writing draws on Rio's beaches, nightlife and neighbourhood memories, moving through the boogie of Jabuticaba, the longing of Senti Saudade and the seaside romance of À Beira Mar.
