About this release
Sam Shepherd returns to the dancefloor as Floating Points on Cascade, developing the rhythmic and melodic ideas of Crush into extended electronic arrangements. The album combines Buchla-driven patterns and intricate drum programming with sounds shaped during time spent in the Californian desert. References to his Manchester upbringing run through ‘Key103’ and ‘Afflecks Palace’, named after the radio station and market that formed part of his early musical world. Akiko Nakayama supplies the fluid visual artwork. This standard Ninja Tune edition spreads the music across two black 140g records in a gatefold sleeve, with ‘Tilt Shift’ and ‘Ablaze’ joined as the final vinyl track.
