About this release
NuNorthern Soul gathers six recordings from Jasper Van’t Hof's Pili Pili, tracing the collective's work from 1984 to 2002. Formed by the Dutch pianist to connect jazz fusion with African musical traditions, the group combined acoustic instruments, electronic textures, live percussion and programmed rhythms. Ilé and Jakko Jakko introduce the selection, followed by Life Size, Hippo Hips and My Gongoma before Soubacha closes the programme. The vinyl edition includes extensive notes by music historian Matt Anniss, drawing on Van’t Hof's memories of the project, plus a printed inner sleeve and reverse-board outer sleeve with artwork by Chris Maude.
