About this release
Gypsy Woman introduces Joe Bataan's blend of Latin rhythms and soul on his 1967 Fania debut. Under the musical direction of Johnny Pacheco, the album moves from the title song's interpretation of The Impressions to the boogaloo of So Fine and Bataan's own Ordinary Guy. Instrumental passages and songs such as Fuego, Campesino and Sugar Guaguancó place the vocals within a broader Latin band setting. This Craft Recordings reissue uses all-analogue mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and is pressed on 180g vinyl at Memphis Record Pressing. The complete nine-track LP programme is retained.
