About this release
keiyaA’s second album explores self-love through conflict, anger, longing and the pressures of other people’s expectations. Written and produced over five years, hooke’s law brings jazz, R&B, hip-hop and electronic experimentation into a personal sequence that allows contradiction rather than forcing a neat resolution. Short passages sit alongside more developed songs, with ‘stupid prizes’ and ‘take it’ among the central tracks and Rahrah Gabor appearing on ‘this time’. Following Forever, Ya Girl, the album expands the Chicago-born, New York-based artist’s approach to songwriting and production while keeping its perspective closely focused on her relationship with herself.
