Laurie Spiegel / Olof Dreijer – Melodies Record Club #002: Ben UFO Selects

Ben UFO’s selection for Melodies Record Club #002 pairs two electronic works that became fixtures in his DJ sets. Laurie Spiegel’s Drums comes from The Expanding Universe and uses computer-controlled analogue synthesis to build an evolving percussion study. Olof Dreijer’s Echoes From Mamori was commissioned for an exhibition in 2009, shaping recordings of Amazonian frogs and Berlin birds into sampled arpeggios. Heard together, the tracks connect experimental composition with the rhythmic possibilities of a club set. Melodies International presents them on opposite sides of a twelve-inch, remastered and cut at half speed by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios.
