About this release
In Abidjan brings together two recordings by Mac Gregor, the Martinique-born singer and composer Clem Marise Voltine. After moving to Abidjan in 1979, she recorded this music in 1981, drawing connections between the West Indies and Ivory Coast. Creole, French and Nouchi lyrics sit over rhythms played by Ivorian musicians including Houon Pierre, combining soul with an Afro-Caribbean feel. Nan Ye Likan occupies the A-side, with Abidjan on the reverse. This Hot Casa 12-inch reissue was remastered at The Carvery and cut to play at 45rpm, presenting the two tracks as a focused pairing.
