Mashabe Band - Mandela

Led by songwriter James Chisenga, Mashabe Band recorded Mandela for Zambia Music Parlour in 1987. The album documents Kalindula, a style that developed from local guitar and percussion traditions into an electric sound central to Zambian popular music in the seventies and eighties.

Named in honour of Nelson Mandela during his imprisonment, this six-track collection places interlocking rhythms and amplified instruments at the centre of the band's approach. Sharp Flat's reissue was restored from the Zambia Music Parlour master-tape archive, returning a key part of the label's Kalindula catalogue to vinyl alongside its better-known Zamrock history.
