About this release
Approach To Anima introduces Maya Ongaku’s earthy blend of psychedelic folk, ambient music and loose, unhurried grooves. The trio of Tsutomu Sonoda, Ryota Takano and Shoei Ikeda formed around the seaside communities near Enoshima, recording in a studio behind the Ace General Store. Guitar and vocals, bass, woodwinds and delicate percussion shape their debut for Guruguru Brain.
The eight-track album moves from the saxophone-led opening “Approach” through “Nuska”, “Melting” and “Something In Morning Rain”. The extended “Water Dreams” stretches out before “Pillow Song” brings the record to a gentle close. A warm, exploratory vinyl LP built from the three musicians’ shared improvisational instincts.
