Mildlife - Phase

Mildlife's debut album brings jazz-funk, psychedelia and disco into the same room, with a live band's feel for rhythm at its centre. Originally released in 2018, Phase opens with the near-nine-minute ‘The Magnificent Moon’, where synthesizers, guitar and a supple rhythm section settle into a groove with room to stretch. The Melbourne quartet's improvisational background is clear, but the playing stays focused on the movement of the songs.

Across six tracks, including ‘Zwango Zop’, ‘Im Blau’ and ‘Two Horizons’, electronic textures meet warm, organic instrumentation. It's an album that works as a continuous home listen and offers plenty for DJs exploring the space between cosmic disco and jazz fusion.
