About this release
Nico Gomez's Soul Of Samba brings bossa nova, Latin jazz and easy-listening arrangements into a recording made in Europe. The Belgian-based orchestra leader's 1972 album also appeared under the title Bossa Nova in the Netherlands and Belgium, with different artwork. For its reissue, Mr Bongo uses the psychedelic cover design from the Japanese Trio Records edition. The twelve-track programme includes the rhythmic shuffle of Aquarela, the relaxed Latin-funk of Agua and Rio, a track later featured in Rainer Trüby's Glücklich series. Familiar songs such as The Girl From Ipanema and One Note Samba sit alongside those selections.
