Okonski - Magnolia

Steve Okonski joins bassist Michael Isvara Montgomery and drummer Aaron Frazer for a piano-trio album shaped by improvisation. The three musicians share connections with Durand Jones & the Indications, but Magnolia grew from a different process: late-night sessions at Colemine's Loveland studio, recorded live to a Tascam 388. An initial session in 2020 led to a return in summer 2021, when spontaneous playing became central to the record. Runner Up opens the seven-track sequence, while Sunday, recorded at the end of the first sessions, closes it. The resulting music is reflective, spacious and guided by the trio's shared intuition.
